SWNT nucleation: Energetics of zipping–edge mechanism
A novel mechanism of SWNT nucleation is considered in oppose to an existing model. The latter model based on the formation of a hemispherical carbon bowl nucleus has no correct description within the thermodynamics and kinetics of the nucleation process. The new mechanism can explain the prevalent formation of [10,10] armchair nanotube on the base of the continuum graphene energetics.
متن کاملDNA Triple Helix Formation: A Potential Tool for Genetic Repair
Triplex forming oligonucleotide DNA triple helices offer new perspectives towards oligonucleotide-directed gene regulation. Triple helix forming oligonucleotides, which bind to double-stranded DNA, are of special interest since they are targeted to the gene itself rather than to its mRNA product (as in the antisense strategy). However, the poor stability of some of these structures might limit ...
متن کاملThe potential for gene repair via triple helix formation.
Triplex-forming oligonucleotides (TFOs) can bind to polypurine/polypyrimidine regions in DNA in a sequence-specific manner. The specificity of this binding raises the possibility of using triplex formation for directed genome modification, with the ultimate goal of repairing genetic defects in human cells. Several studies have demonstrated that treatment of mammalian cells with TFOs can provoke...
متن کاملTheory on the Mechanism of DNA Renaturation: Stochastic Nucleation and Zipping
Renaturation of the complementary single strands of DNA is one of the important processes that requires better understanding in the view of molecular biology and biological physics. Here we develop a stochastic dynamical model on the DNA renaturation. According to our model there are at least three steps in the renaturation process viz. nonspecific-contact formation, correct-contact formation a...
متن کاملFormation of the triple-stranded polynucleotide helix, poly(A.A.U).
A polynucleotide helical structure containing two strands of poly(A) and one of poly(U) is reported. As shown by spectroscopic observations, the complex only forms when the poly(A) strands are of Mr between 9000 and 50,000 (degree of polymerization congruent to 28-150), whereas the size of the poly(U) strand has no effect. This limitation may explain why poly(A.A.U) was not seen in previous inv...
